Why Travel is Good for You

“Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.” – Anonymous

There’s this unforeseen beauty of traveling to someplace you’ve never been. Beyond the new scenery, cultures, and food, you begin to discover a new you. You step out of your comfort zone and into this foreign land and begin to realize just how capable you are.

Why travel is good for you

Traveling makes you more open-minded. You see the way other people live, the way they approach the world, and the way they interact. You gain this new appreciation for where you come from and all the incredible things your hometown offers that might have become so ordinary and mundane to you in the past.

These are some of the most talked about benefits of traveling:

  • Improves your social and communication skills
  • Broadens your horizons
  • Relieves stress
  • Boosts happiness and satisfaction
  • Lowers the risk of depression
  • Enhances your creativity

We asked one of our Positivity Ambassadors why he loves to travel. This is what Corey’s response was:

Why travel is good for you

“I travel to experience new things. My parents got me into traveling when I little and I’ve been in love with the idea of seeing the world since I was a little kid. When I turned 18 I started traveling by myself to different places all over the world and I can honestly say traveling has taught me more than school ever has. I have a degree in communication, but I believe I have learned the most about communication by traveling to foreign countries. Learning to navigate foreign places where you don’t speak the language is very difficult, but through all the sticky situations I’ve been in I’ve been able to figure my way out of it by finding different ways to communicate.

Traveling helps me realize how small I am compared to the world and ultimately how much I don’t matter, which has humbled me and made me extremely grateful for everything I’ve experienced so far and all the wonderful things I have in my own life. I get asked a lot, ‘Don’t you get lonely traveling by yourself?’ My response is, “I never feel more connected than when I’m completely alone in the middle of someplace I’ve never been.”

I hope to never stop traveling and hope I can instill this passion for seeing the world into my kids one day.”

This TED talk by the world traveler and CEO of Modern Adventure Travel Company, Luis Vargas, has great insights on why we should travel and how beneficial it is for the human body.
